The View
The 38,000-acre lake has 540 miles of shoreline. Lake Lanier Islands, a resort and water park, hugs its southernmost shore. The islands are the remnants of mountains submerged when the man-made lake was formed in 1957. Scenic coves and wooded peninsulas define the 1,200 acres of ground they cover. A visit can be a day trip or a resort vacation at one of two nearby first-class hotels, Renaissance Pineisle and Emerald Pointe. Charming lake house, cabin rentals and campground sites are also available.
The Appeal
The beach and water park are the biggest attractions, featuring water slides, Georgia's largest wave pool, a mile of white sandy beach, volleyball and live music. Visitors can rent sailboats, houseboats, ski boats or even a luxury liner with hot tubs and accommodations for up to 100. Two championship golf courses--particularly Emerald Pointe--offer lake views and challenging holes. Don't forget the lake itself.

Curious that all the reviews are dated 2005 or earlier. I guess no one wants to talk about the drought and the impact on tourism at the lake and the reduced availablity of amenities.

Lake Lanier is a beautiful resort. However, we went in mid-march during our kids spring break and less than half of the amenities were available. No where in the brochures or website does it advise about the water park or equestrian center being limited certain times of the year. It was disappointing.
