Best Pizza in Tampa Bay Area.
This is by far the best pizza in Tampa Bay. The Double Decker is a one of a kind pie. Either you love it or hate it but I will place my bets on LOVE IT. Most people do. Every local I know usually has great things to say. This place has won award after award for it's pizza. It is worth a try by anyone. Show up at 4p.m. (when they open) and you won't wait as long or do a late night and show up after 8p.m.
4:30 - 7:30 you will wait which may hurt your experience.
Classic!. This place is a classic Brandon pizza place! The best in town! Maybe these unsatisfied folks should head back to New York or the mid-west where they can complain about something else!
Just stay away.
Very poor experience all the way around- expensive- poor quality food- just plain bad~ Restaurant smelled and not in a good way- too busy and not enough staff to handle it-
We got sick afterwards-and were sick for a few days just from eating here- will never come back. They need to be reviewed by the health dept. since they don't practice safe food handling-spreading the sauce on a pizza with their hands- really- how clean is that???
avoid at all costs.
digusting, while waiting for our pizza we looked over to where you could see them making it and we saw the cook take his bare hands and spread the pizza sauce on the dough.YUK !
we asked for the manager and the owner came over and said" that's the way we do it here and have been for 20 years.''
We left and the next day I reported them to the board of health.Needless to say,we won't ever go back.
Maybe it's the economy... I wonder if this place has changed its product recently, because it's hard to understand why it gets such a high rating. I expected good things - the building was unique, the smells inside were good, it had all the earmarks of a local quality pizza joint. Until the pizza arrived, that is. Cheese covered barely half of the pizza spreading out from the center, and it was a thin layer. The most amateurish of mistakes - too much sauce - dripped from the sides and caused the toppings to slide completely off if you weren't careful. Laughably skimpy on the meat toppings (although I could see plenty of green peppers) My double-decker consisted of another layer of soggy dough, lots more sauce, and almost non-existent toppings -including no second layer of cheese at all (!) Very nice staff, and the owner came around to each table. I wanted to like it, but to be honest the pizza was just BAD. Oh yea, no free refills either.
Excellent double decker for the Tampa area.
As an expert of Chicago and New York pizza, I searched online for a west Tampa pizzeria that was similiar and found Babe's pizza...which comes highly rated with locals.
To begin with....the staff is fantatstic....super friendly (yet busy), and helpful.
The restaurant itself is barely big enough to seat 30...although that makes it quaint...you can watch the cooks prepare your pizza...which is reassuring...be ready to wait....this place is in demand...
In regards to da pizza: I has had some of the best pizzas in the world (accent intended), so I is VERY snobbish when it comes to passing a grade.....I will say...that as far as a Tampa pizza goes, the double decker here is by far the best I have tried (I have not tried the thin crust here yet)....however...as a Chicago/NY pizza snob, I have to mention that they have a little to do....
The cheese is obviously ALL mozz......it is bland....although served in very generous portions.....and the sauce....well....I prefer a much more spicier puree....but it is a very good mix for a FL pizzeria. You wanna match Chicago/NY ? Add some toping spices (a little more oregano and sage) to your cheese and for sauce (cumin, parsley, bay and fennel).....wanna get more NY ? ADD some frigging provalone to da cheese, and roll the crust a bit crispier.....
Overall...excellent for FL and double decker.....and you definitely get your money's worth.....a $20 pizza will serve 4 or 5 easy....
fun place to visit with friends or family, a must see....do it. great business, just fun to be there, nice people, pizza is good, greek salad great. just have fun, need more places like this. bring back the t-shirts, been trying to buy one for years. my daughter in columbus ohio expects me to bring back a pizza evertime I visit here. just do it
My favorite pizza. Been going for over 25 years. This is by far my favorite pizza. I don't mind the wait, especially with the little waiting room. Usually we get the double decker pepperoni and a salad. Price is decent. Can feed our family of 5 for under $30. Do not get to go as often as I would like. Like to watch the pizza being made. My kids have grown up watching them make the pizza and love it. I would recommend it to anyone except those would nit pick anything. This is a casual place with a friendly wait staff. They are the best if you ask me.
Excellent Pizza.
I have been looking for a place that comes close to this place I used to go to in Wisconsin that has comparable pizza. The only closest thing was Babe's pizza. The place I used to love was Chicago style pizza with a very thick crust and a sweet sauce. Babe's pizza is excellent for both. I don't know what other people put on their pizza that it cost them 40 dollars for a pizza and a salad, but when my husband and I went to Babe's we only spent like 25 dollars and the pizza was very good. I would go back again and again. I think I may even go today to get some!
The staff is also very nice and was very timely. Eating with a six year old can be hard when they want to get up and play all the time, but the train that goes around their ceiling keeps her pretty occupied.
All in all this place is a wonderful place to eat.
I know a good pizza when I have one.
There are all kinds of pizza - if you like thick, bready and Sicilian types go somewhere else. If you like a thin crust this is the place to go.
I recently moved here from NYC and was certain the pizza at Babe's would be okay at best. I ate an entire doiuble decker by myself because I liked it so much. Who knew?
This place is small and busy so one has to wait first for a seat and then for the pizza. If you are starving before you get there I suggest you snack on something - but not too much since you'll need the room.
I don't think the food is all that expensive but like I said, I just got here from NYC. I also don't eat out at fast food and chain restaurants where menu items are often cheap (and taste that way).
Regardless of some of the reviews I've read here, let me point out that Babe's is busy for a reason - really good pizza - bottom line.
