Other Reviews Are Incorrect

by ec22651 at Citysearch

I strongly disagree with the other reviews of this establishment. Mr. "NYReview" who has reviewed "several" restaurants in the area obviously favors more of the "chi chi" variety. This is not Ondine nor The Mayflower Inn, or Stonehenge and I have been to all three and they are excellent. This is a neighborhood eating establishment known for its' comfort food that features great specials every week. They also offer a kick ass sandwich menu as well! My wife and I love everything from their Ahi Tuna to their Reuben sandwich, to their appetizers. Hey Mister "NYReview" guy, many of us can't afford to drop $250 for dinner at the 5 Star restaurants. The Candlewood Grille is good food at a fair price with great people. The owners, Mark and Natalie are awesome. You happened to catch them on an off day which can happen to even the most favorably reviewed establishments. Go there, it's cozy, the food is good and the selection is wonderful.

The Worst Service ever experienced

by NYReview at Citysearch

I have reviewed several restaurants in the area and although many are lacking the creativity you find in a large city the small town charm more than makes up for it. Unfortunately any small town charm mustered by the this restaurant is completely overshadowed by the slow service, unskilled wait staff and completely unhelpful and rude manager. By the time our food arrived I could have driven home cooked a meal and brought it back to the restaurant to eat there, and the waitstaff probably would have added it to our bill. If you are thinking of heading to the Candlewood Grill, hang a right and get a slice of pizza at Bruno's instead.

Cute place, terrrible,terrible, service.

by wolf1962 at Citysearch

The food was average. The service was just awful...they had two loud speakers playing different music in the bar area, and the dining area. We couldn't hear each other speak. We asked to have the music lowered twice but no one did. We waited a long, long time for service and the place had only one other table filled.

  • Pros: ambience without the blaring music
  • Cons: service,average food.

worst food and service in new fairfield

by sbrownusc at Citysearch

I took my fiance there for dinner. I called ahead of time, they said there was not a wait, and put me on the list "to be safe"...i showed and had to wait 30 mins for a table. after being seated it was another 15 mins to get water. we ordered shortly after, and the food came out very slowly, we probably snacked on the bread for 40 mins before our appetizer appeared (and the restaurant was NOT busy). the food was terrible, and the service was too. My fiance's queen size prime rib was more like the size of a children's meal, and was supposed to be cooked med, insead, it came out raw..we asked to have it cooked med again, and they took it back, microwaved it, and parts of it were still raw when it returned.. the staff was trying hard to show how they were inconcenienced...not even a "sorry." more like a scoff and shaking their head as they walked back to the kitchen. my food was bad as well. the chicken was like eating wood, and the ribs sucked. we will never return.

  • Pros: decent ambience
  • Cons: terrible food and service
