Awesome home cooked food from a pro

by live2eat

If your best friend who cooked better than everyone in the neighborhood and opened a restaurant, it would be Gary’s Ribs. When you walk in you have a full size bar well stocked and well attended. To left is a dinning room which is big enough for 40 or so but small enough you feel like your family. There is linens on the table, cloth napkins, and stainless. No eating off paper plates with plastic forks. The menu varies from salmon, to hand cut steaks, to the house specialty of ribs. Because Gary can cook, if you don't see a combo you like, ask. They'll fix you up.

Now, everyone on planet claims to make good barbeque ribs, Gary’s actually does. I snuck into the kitchen found out they use more than small quantity of Maker’s Mark Bourbon in the sauce along with enough spices to make you take notice, but not enough to wipe out your senses. A half order will fill you, but for a few bucks more go for full which hangs off the plate. If you don’t finish it, someone at home will.

Salads, salad dressings, soups, and everything is made from scratch in house. Even each cup of coffee is fresh brewed for you. The service is solid. Most of the staff is Gary’s family, so there is back-sliding allowed. They’ve all got their heart and soul tied up in making your meal a great experience and it shows.

I’ve had scallops and a hand cut steak in for the last 2 meals there. The broccoli was al dente and size of small tree. I caved and had a side potatoes which were hot, crisp on the outside, and soft and sweet on the inside. The deserts looked great, but honestly I couldn’t eat any more.

I’d go more often, but I live almost 2,000 miles away, so it is a bit far; however, if I’m even close, say White Plains, Danbury, Somers, Carmel, Mahopac, Southbury, or any where with in 50 miles, I make bee line. While it cost a few dollars more than some obnoxious Australian steak places with way to much attitude and salt, the food and service at Gary’s is fantastic. It also on par with and way less costly than those premium Chop Houses with tons of leather and dark, dark woods.

I sincerely travel 40+ weeks a year and eat out 5+ nights a week. When I’m home, I cook and entertain, so when I say the food is great, I’m not kidding. It makes a top 25 list nationally especially if you consider the value.

  • Pros: Good American Food, attentative staff, and Large Bar
  • Cons: None
