I think the food at Edge Of The Woods is very yummy but it is overpriced. The salad bar is great, the hot food and soups are always delicious and inventive. Having said that there is the biggest cast of pretentious weirdos assembled under one roof there that I have seen in a while. There is MR. SHORTS, this older guy who comes trotting in wearing shorts in the dead of winter. There is The Locksmith & His Wife who always talk loud enough for the whole place to hear them. there is Hershall The Consultant who holds court in the dining area and expounds hot air and that is only the tip of the iceberg. The crew seems to change on a weekly basis too. The only place in New Haven with an even BIGGER cast of pretentious weirdos is Claire's Cornercopia....although I love their food too!

The good thing about the store is the vitamin/personal products section. There is usually a knowledgeable employee willing to help you figure out what exactly you are looking for. The bad part is once you buy something the next time you go there they are usually out of the product and it usually will take them a couple of weeks or more to restock. They need a better handle on the inventory. As far as the hot foods, I have never tried them. But the veggies, etc always look fresh.

Edge of the Woods is a great health food store! It has a wide varitey of organic/healthly foods at reasonable prices. My mother and I usually go there to buy organic seeds and dried fruit. This place also sells food where you can sit and eat. THe upper level sells organic vitamins,and body products. Overall, a great health food store.
