Favorite place for seafood
by Henry in Woodbury
This family run seafood market in the Plantsville area of Southington is fast becoming this Chowhound's favorite seafood restaurant. It is clean, bright and has fresh and prepared fish and seafood to eat in or to take home. Bill Close and his staff provide impeccable food in a friendly setting which while simple, is spotless. Every week email customers receive coupons for great luncheon and dinner specials. We live in Litchfield County and wish we lived closer but still manage to get here every couple of weeks or so. Today (Feb. 13) we went to pick up our Valentine's Day special package. This consisted of two 1 1/2 lb stuffed lobsters, a pint of lobster bisque, two huge homemade stuffed clams, and 12 of their absolutely best cocktail shrimp w/sauce. All this was $60, and for the two of us will be enough for two meals. And as long as we were making the trip we had some whole belly clams and some fried sea scallops for lunch.
- Pros: Absolutely fresh seafood excellently prepared.
- Cons: Drinks limited to bottled softdrinks.
Best Seafood in area

Wow what a find. Food is great and service was as well. Seafood fresh and quality is the best we seen in a while. Why go to the shore if you have a place like this local. Was a real treat and after eating other places that were a huge let down. Please try it you will be very surprised.
- Pros: Great Food
- Cons: None
Always fresh...

Best seafood anywhere the area. Quality products always presented beautifully in the case. Whether you need seafood or prepared side dishes like the seafood stuffed twice baked potato's, crab cakes, lobster bisque or scallops wrapped in bacon, "Close" in the place for you. Not the cheapest game in town, but is that what you want from your fishmonger? Never dissappointed with the freshness and quality !
- Pros: quality is exceptional and the taste is superior to the grocery store.
- Cons: little more costly, but well worth it when you taste the difference.
LOVE their FRESH seafood!

I just visited Close Harbour Seafood for the first time last Friday & it definitely won't be the last time! My first impression when I walked through the door: a clean and friendly place. The staff were very helpful and very nice--good/speedy service as well (everybody hustles, which is SO nice to see when you're a customer these days)! Since it was warm out, I sat outside on the patio & I felt like I was at the beach! They had an area with tables with umbrellas surrounded by a rope fence with colorful buoys tied to it--it was great to get that carefree, "dinner on the beach" feeling while being inland! They had good music playing and the patio area was all set up and ready for the summer months even though it?s only April. I can't wait for the live music Close Harbour is going to have!! It's definitely a great dinner place. I love the atmosphere and the food was delicious. I had the lobster roll--excellent choice! I can't wait to go back so I can try other items on their menu like their shrimp or stuffed mushrooms! I also want to try their different specials that are offered each day. I highly recommend Close Harbour Seafood for lunch or dinner and have already told several people about it. I will definitely be back there soon!
- Pros: Relaxing, carefree atmosphere
- Cons: Would like to see more plants around the outdoor patio.
Surpisingly good

We dined last night at this small, casual restaurant located inside a retail seafood market. In warmer weather there is dining on the outside patio. The menu offered us was far different from what appears on the company’s website. Much of the menu is taken up by fried dinners, salads and soups. Except for the evening’s specials, those wishing to eschew fried, can select an 8 ounces portion of any fresh fish in the showcase at a cost of only $15 and the method of cooking (baked, grilled or broiled).
I was not overly impressed by the freshness of the retail seafood, but after much deliberation both my wife and I chose swordfish which was served with the day’s fresh vegetable, a delicious puree of winter squash. The fish was grilled to perfection, both tender and flavorful. The wait staff was friendly and the owner stopped at our table to inquire how we were enjoying the meal.
