Just Don't – Just the rudeness and arrogance of the waitstaff will send you into a frenzy. They act as if 'they'are doing you a favor being 'graced' by their presence. I have gone here several times and the service is insulting. I don't go here often for this reason. On the last visit , just this weekend , I went for dinner with a couple of friends & ordered the Fried mozzarella, since I dont eat seafood. They usually serve this this with a minimal of sauce so I asked for ' extra' sauce. Upon arrival, the female bartender "J " delivered the Mozzarella with absolutey no sauce. Just 3 pieces of dry mozzarella ,... can you imagine ? Unbelievable !!!
She announced that since i asked for extra sauce that she
took it 'upon herself ' to ordered it without any sauce whatsoever. Does that make sense ??? Having received bad service from this person before ,I was not surprised in the least and asked for 2 extra sauces to compensate for the total lack of sauce on a dish that is normally served with sauce at any other restaurant & as is normally served at the Chowder pot.
Just the hassle of going here and expecting 'normal' service and not getting it is beyond belief. I am finding that most of their service people, whether it be at the bar or in the dining room are very arrogant and act like they are doing you an extreme favor.... unfortunately they are not . I visited the Chowder 2x in the same week and received the same behavior from different servers. I am just a normal customer who doesn;t expect more than hospitable service . I asked to speak with the manager on the 2nd visit as it was just too much to take. Customers do not come here to be abused and it is not surprising that their clientele is diminishing. The Chowder Pot has been a long term staple in Ct. and it is too bad that they treat their customers as if they are an inconvenience. It is, however, a great thing that Ct. has many other restaurants who do provide good service. If you want to feel like you should have stayed home, then go to the Chowder pot.
Poor Service and Mediocre Food: 4/13/2008 – Whatever you do - don't get the crab cakes. I couldn't find any crab in mine and they were cold in the center. The calamari was greasy and lukewarm by the time it got to the table. I like honey butter, but what is up with the icing that they put on their bread!?!?! It was too sweek to enjoy. We had to carve off the top crust in order to be able to eat the bread.
I requested a coke about 10 minutes before our food was served. The watress did not bring the coke until 20 minutes later. We requested an extra plate when the food was served. The waitress proceeded to box up other patrons leftovers and clean off other tables. She did finally bring the extra plate and coke.
When we spoke to the manager, she was very kind and apologetic. She made every effort to make things right. We were very impressed with her professionalism. One thing that she said concerned us though. She stated that our watress was the best she has. Oh my gosh!!
Needless to say, I can't say it loud enojugh: STAY AWAY!!! STAY AWAY!!!
overrated, over-crowded, less-than-average fried seafood joint. – This place is so overrated. Always crowded and serves marginal quality food. Local people keep on voting this place among the top in seafood restaurants. Their lobster bisque is like drinking heavy cream and butter. I would not have stepped my foot in the place had it not been for a party that was held there. Stay away if you know real food.
