Ordering any other food I really can't recommend. It is all quite boring and tasteless. Some people joke that all mexican food is pretty much the same. Well, the Rio Grande sadly reinforces that notion; and not in a good way.
No, to this Restaurant!. I was there this saturday night with a couple of friends. We waited for almost 2 hours to even get seated. (was there at 7pm). Crazy! But finally left to go to another mexican restaurant. I dont know what your website is saying about good service and friendly people, but that is a lie. The service is very poor and the receptionist was very RUDE!!! This was the worst Mexican Restaurant I have ever been at. This place is packed and is a bunch of chaos! I wont be back!
So-so. Food is alright at bestM pretty bland and boring. Margaritas are great though. They're pretty much the only reason I go there.
Lets get some things straight here. I just want to clear up a few things about the ol' Rio Grande. They DO NOT use everclear in their margaritas. They use the same thing as everyone else. Tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Second, they really aren't that good. Strong, Yes. Good, No. If you want something that actually tastes like a real margarita and not this sweet junk, then go for the agave martini! GOOD STUFF. The food is ok. It is quick and cheap tex-mex, but hey, you're drunk remember?
The Best Maggies and Salsa. This is an incredibly popular place on Mountain Avenue in Old Fort Collins. On a summer evening, there will be a line out the door. The best thing about the Rio, is its a fun place to meet friends. They have the absolute best frozen Margaritas and an endless basket of chips and salsa. The salsa is seasoned heavily with Cilantro and for me, this is addictive. But after the salsa and a couple of Maggie's, the rest is down hill. This is tex mex food which to me all tastes the same. Beans and Rice and Corn wraps. Yuck. If you have to eat a meal here, have a couple margaritas first and you won't care what you eat. But when I eat there, I stick with the Shrimp scure which is grilled. It's tasty but is served with the rice and beans which usually goes uneaten. The steak fajitas are also edible. But hey, stick with the margaritas and salsa and then head out to one of Downtown Fort Collins' better eateries.
are you kiddding me?. I've been to Rio 3 times and hated every one of them! If you are hungry don't bother- I make better things drunk at 3 in the morning. It makes sense why they put everclear in their margs-you have to be wasted to not realize that the food, atmosphere and service are all horrible! p.s I have never known anyone that hasn't had a horrible hang over from here. Too bad they don't use that space for a truly enjoyable restaurant or club.
Could be greatly improved on.
The margarita's are really the only thing going for this establishment and as was stated already, the food is average at best. The wait staff is well below average. Not much for kids menu. The long wait isn't really worth it if you?ve come to enjoy a good Mexican meal. If all you want to do is to tie a good on one then maybe it?s for you, but other than that I don't really care for it.
A much more improved and personable wait staff, improved food items across the board and this might be a place worth returning.
Good margs, not so good food. I agree with the previous reviewers...Though the margaritas are excellent, the only food that is very good are the chips and salsa. The rest of the food on the menu is either too oily or just plain not very good. The Rio shuts down for a siesta at about 2:00 and doesn't open again until dinner time which is odd to me. The wait for lunch or dinner is always at least 30-60 minutes long. If you love margaritas this is the place to go but don't expect too much with the food.
Good Food...AMAZING MARGARITAS. Wow this place is awesome. They have really good food, a fun enviroment and the best margaritas in the world. A GREAT PLACE
Food takes a backseat to the potent margaritas and the crowd that loves them..
In Short
This wildly popular place usually has a line of people waiting for a table or patio spot. Luckily it's ok to order appetizers and margaritas at the bar and check out the social scene during the wait. The restaurant is all about margaritas: Big or small, frozen or on the rocks. They're deceptively potent; so there's a three-margarita limit. For dining, fajitas hit the table sizzling and queso dip is good to the last drop.
