CamaJe Bistro

Make our living room yours at this undiscovered Village bistro.

  • Brunch to order & no lines!
  • THE perfect party space!
  • Great food Great prices!

CAMAJE, in the heart of Greenwich Village, seems miles away from its touristy surroundings. Excellent food is the focus at this cozy bistro, although people are initially attracted by its comfy couches, burgundy walls, candles & mirrors, old-time maroon-and-white tiled floor & sidewalk seating. CAMAJE offers French-American dishes--a great selection of soups, sandwiches, salads, appetizers & main courses, all made to order. Its homemade desserts are local favorites. And you can create your own savory or sweet crepes by selecting fillings.Wines are from California and France--with a few global surprises. The by-the-glass list boasts over 25 choices. Ignore Citysearch's tastebudless reviewer and see why Zagat gives CamaJe high marks for food, & TimeOut calls it a "hidden gem." Prices are reasonable (see menu on website). There's also a great prix-fixe: any 3 courses for $25. Ready t

Editorial Review for CamaJe Bistro – by Paul Adams

The Scene
A small, 10-table room with deep red walls and a quaint, pleasant bistro feel. The diners are primarily locals, despite the restaurant's proximity to Bleecker Street's tourist strip. Customers should be prepared to spend a long time over dinner: The small staff is friendly but painfully slow.

The Food
Expect a host of American-French dishes. Crepes are done well, and sandwiches on Pullman bread--with fillings that include delicious, slightly charred kielbasa, shrimp salad and hanger steak--make a quick and inexpensive alternative to the regular entrees. The chef's concepts are generally good, but ingredients can be sub-par: Both the wan scallops, laid in a tomato broth over a single ribbon of pappardelle, and the dryish rib lamb chops in a tasty tomato confit with green fava beans are disappointing. For a lighter meal, there are several variations on the goat cheese salad theme.

I like Camaje for the food, atmosphere and overall open, Village atmosphere. I've been there several times with my friends and we always have a good time. The food is delicious and the service is terrific. Highly Recommended!

We made dinner reservations early in the week for 6 o'clock on Sat. night. They called on Saturday - a few hours before our reservation - and said that they made a mistake in the reservation book and they were canceling our reservation! Instead of apologizing profusely and offering another day/time with a free drink/appetizer to compensate for their mistake, the general attitude was basically, "yeah, we messed up, but too bad!!"
