Good beer, great music.
First time visitors, let me start off with four words... "this place is LOUD"
If you are into loud rock music and cheap Pabst, Hells Kitchen is for you. They moved from their 6th Ave location and are now on Pacific under a parking garage. The new location is bigger and easier to get around.
Most of the clientele seems to be regulars (which I would not say I am), but everyone makes you feel welcome regardless. The mood can get a little raucous by the end of the night, but I've never seen any bar fights or other crap like you might at a more "meat market" kind of bar.
It is good to see they are still going strong after so many years.
A classic rock-club vibe and refreshing lack of pretension livens up Tacoma's music scene..
The Scene
UPS students and guys with long hair compete for the few tables in the main bar area. Once the music begins, the crowd moves en masse to the fairly small but decent concert room. The club is broken up between the main bar, the concert area and the small game room, but isn't so big that the line at the full bar ever gets too long. Arrive early for dinner or to split a pitcher over a game of pool, foosball, pinball or ping pong.
The Draw
The menu consists of standard pub fare with a few extras, and there are a few diversions, but the crowd shows up for the music. Although the sound system can't compete with some of the clubs in Seattle, it's enough to elicit the fist of glory from the headbanging crowd.
