Super Great Seafood. We went there twice during spring break and loved everything we ordered. They definitely know what they are doing and gave us plenty to eat each time. We waited about 40 to 50 minutes for a table each time at for dinner. We had a great waiter the first trip and ok the second. We had "peel and eat" shrimp for an appetizer one trip and they were awesome! Some of the best shrimp in Gulf Shores. I ordered the King Crab legs and they were fabulous. I couldn't eat all of mine. They also have an all you can eat salad bar that you can add as a side dish for an additional cost. The food was great and we will definitely be back next year.
TEN YEARS OF GREAT FOOD AND BEST SERVICE. We come to Gulf SHores twice a year for a month each time since 2001. WE have ALWAYS received great food and great service. This is why they have been in business for 26 years. Large portions and reasonable prices.
Great eats. I had lunch there today, but ordered a seared tuna from the dinner menu. Simply awesome. However, the personalities make the place. Ask for Stephen to wait on you, then ask to speak to a manager. We spoke to the guy with the Elvis Costello glasses. He and Stephen were the highlight of my meal. Music fans, ask these two anything. You won't be disappointed
Great. This is great food. You might have to wait for a while, but the wait is well worth it. There is a lot of fried seafood here, and if your are a stupid yankee like spikes93 then you don't need to be in the south anyway. Otherwise us southerners might screw you up.
Good Ole Seafood.
This is the first place where I've waited to wait. No joke I was put on a 45 minute wait to wait for my pager to wait another 45 minutes for my table. The question I ask myself is "was it worth it?" Yes it was.
If you go to the Original Oyster House to get fresh seafood, that's exactly what you'll get. However be prepared for tons of fried seafood. They do prepare seafood in other ways but no doubt this Alabama tradition is all about what southerners love to screw up - even frying crab claws (I couldn't really find the meat in those crab claws). I settled on the monster platter because of so many choices on the menu and couldn't decide on just one. Don't get me wrong it was a good meal. Just compared to the fare you'll find on the Outer Banks, it can't compete - another level of cuisine.
The hidden gem in this place is the red beans and gumbo. I would wait two hours just for a bowl of either with corn bread. Simply awesome - the way I remember it as a kid. Go there just for that if this appeals to you. The oysters were fresh as well another good treat. And don't forget to try the cheese grits.
Service was good. The place is as clean as you would expect it to be with the hundreds served nightly. Salad bar was clean and had fresh veggies - loved that pickled okra! And the libations were plentiful and came to the table in a quick and orderly fashion. You can even get cocktails while you wait!
This was the best place in Gulf Shores proper where we ate during our recent week long vacation to the area. I thought the restaurants in Orange Beach were better on the whole. However we do intend to visit the Original Oyster House again on our return trip.
