Lifetime rocks! We are a young couple who got turned down for international adoption because we weren't married long enough. Praise God we did as it let us to Lifetime!
Lifetime told us exactly what to do and we did it. The profile, how to talk to birthmothers, webinars, everything. They told us it would work and it did. We waited about 11 months to be chosen by an expectant mom and our baby boy was born 3 months later.
We will be saving the funds to adopt #2 from Lifetime. And hopefully someday, #3 too!
The ladies at Lifetime are so great, so supportive, and so understanding.
Thanks! You made us a family!!
Its a scam and facilitators are illegal in many states. Ironic that their fee is almost exactly the same as the adoption tax credit they tell you to use to get your money back when all they do is give you a phone number and lie to you. Thank God our attorney stopped us from following their advice or we could have been charged with kidnapping.
Adoption for Real People – My husband and I were accepted into Lifetime's program after applying to a couple of other "national" programs. What I loved about Lifetime was that our adoption was about US as a couple, and about a birthmother choosing us.
Other places we called it seemed to be less warm and more business. We got care from everyone we ever talked to there, and we liked knowing that the birthmothers must feel the same way.
We didn't want to adopt from a "business" but from someone who could help us more like family. And Lifetime is definitely family now to us.
They talk a lot about a birthmother picking you for the right reasons, and this is so true. And we are so lucky we listened!! Our little guy will be 7 months soon and hopefully his adoption will be final a few days later.
Thank you to our coordinator Diane and everyone at Lifetime!
I'm sorry..... – I am sorry but I half to question some of the negative comments by some of you with this agency. They are wonderful! I went through three agencies before stumbling upon Lifetime for my son, who now has a wonderful family. Adoption is wonderful and if you are looking to give your son/daughter a great home READ the profiles offered and make a list of the parents you like and a question sheet to ask them. Adoption is a wonderful thing MANY people who can not have children pay a lot to try and adopt...... Lifetime gave me great support and help in my time of need. Again, I had went through THREE agencies PLUS a potential mother...... This agency is AMAZING and more then. As for the people who want to adopt I do not know much BUT, I know they gave the parents a lawyer to take the rights from the father who was a BAD person.... RIGHT when I had my baby the parents were able to take him to their state.... If you have any questions you may email me.... But again, this agency is amazing!!!!!!!
agree - waste of time and money – We had almost exactly the same experience as skid289. After 2 and half years, they never gave out all 50 of our profiles. What's worse is now we're 3 years older than when we started. For us, it was a last ditch effort and now we think we've crossed over the line into "too old". We've discourage and we've given up on adopting.
The Best! – Lifetime, in a word, is FANTASTIC! They were they every step of the way for us as we navigated the journey through adoption to find our beautiful daughter. We are hoping to return and use their services again in 2 to 3 years.
We had the opportunity to meet them all at their adoption center and are SO glad we did. There can not be a more caring group of women working with birthmothers, children, and families. They are all fabulous.
There was no doubt about what responsibilities were ours, what were theirs, and what kind of fell in the middle, that we would need to stay a little flexible on. And they were there by phone anytime day or night -- I know because I called in a panic at 2:30am when our birthmother went into early labor! LOL
Lifetime is the best! We made the right choice with Lifetime Adoption and sing their praises to everyone we meet. It took us a little longer (13 months until we were matched) but we have no doubt that this little girl is the one God had for us.
In regards to the other reviews...We went into Lifetime with our EYES WIDE OPEN. Lifetime was upfront about everything, including the fact that they assist with INDEPENDENT adoption, which means that you work with the attorney directly and provide things like profiles. I think the other reviewers here must not have read the agreement, because EVERYTHING is in it. There were no surprises for us, because we read our agreement and asked questions along the way. If you didn't do your homework, don't blame Lifetime! Especially when you got a baby in 9 months!!
Caveat Emptor -- Eyes wide open! – We adopted our son in 2005 using Lifetime as an adoption facilitator. The entire process, start to finish, took exactly 9 months (go figure), but it was the most intense 9 months of my life! However, we did do nearly everything ourselves, just like the previous review said -- he was right on the money. Fortunately, I have a creative background, so our profiles and letter turned out nicely. You do your profile yourself, it does cost $1000+ to produce 50 copies, and it took them more than a month (clock ticking on our contract) and some anguished phone calls to get our profile up on their website. You deal with the birth families and lawyers yourself too. I don't think my son's birth mother got much support from them afterward, either. They were there for us by long distance phone in the crutch, however, when my son's birthmother was waffling a bit at his hospital release 4 days after his birth (we stayed respectfully clear and prayed for grace, whatever the final outcome). However, the end results were a beautiful, healthy, baby our our dreams. And, we'll probably use them again, caveat emptor.
Loved their adoption services! – We adopted from Lifetime back in 2004 and cannot say enough great things about them! They provide one-on-one attention to all their clients, something you can't say about every adoption organization. From the time we first applied to adopt through them until our son's adoption finalization, they were always there for us.
Yes they are "for profit"; most companies do need to make a profit in order to stay in business! Especially in this economy, no one is able to volunteer 40+ hours of their time a week. Obviously there needs to be someone to answer the phones, assist customers, emails, etc etc...just as there would be in any business.
Lifetime does NOT require you "do everything yourself." It is quite the opposite, they guide you throughout everything, providing feedback and expert advice. Families who truly are contracted with Lifetime know that their staff is always there for you, 24/7 in fact!
A waste of precious time any money – My wife and I contracted with Lifetime Adoption and I for one am extremely disappointed. I would not recommend them at all. Keep in mind they are FOR PROFIT - and what profits they must make!
You'd think you'd be getting something special for the $12,000 fee (now $17,000, IIRC). Their marketing materials speak of a "vast network" and some "database" they have that magically matches you with a birth-mother.
In their literature (what little you get BEFORE you sign the contract and write them a check), they claim to be experts at facilitating matches with prospective birth mothers, and that their fee goes into promoting you as adoptive parents and birth mother outreach. I didn't believe it but my wife thought we should take a chance as we are desperate to start a family and are not getting any younger.
First off, you're required to do almost everything yourself. You have to do all your own promotional text and pictures, design and create your own hard-copy and on-line profiles, and birth-mother letters with minimal guidance and virtually no feedback. In our case it cost over $1,000 just to produce the minimum 50 hard copy profiles they require. All I've seen them do is take a web-form submission page that we filled in and incorporate it randomly into their web site.
They require you to have a 1-800 number (at your expense) in the event a birth-mother is interested in you. But they do not participate directly as facilitators in any communication between you and the birth-mother.
They do not help in obtaining medical records during the birth-mother's pregnancy. You're on your own.
They do not send a representative/facilitator/social worker to the hospital if you desire a newborn. You're on your own.
They do not provide any legal services or legal representation. You're on your own.
They do not give any feedback during the process about potential birthmothers, if any have been interested in you. You're on your own, left to wonder and hope.
They do not respond to questions in a timely manner. Email responses normally took a week or more.
While we were waiting we asked them to tell us how we could improve our profile - they once said it was "beautiful" but other than that, nothing. Of course, if you need to update your profile on-line, they charge a fee of $50/hr.
They even jerked our chain by sending us an email saying "we have a birth mother who's interested in you, we're just waiting for her paperwork". My wife was excited, but I was suspicious as they evidently violated their own stated rules. Well, we're still waiting. That is INCREDIBLY UNETHICAL.
As of this date we have not had a single birthmother contact.
I would avoid them at all costs and go through a non-profit or state agency. Maybe Lifetime will eventually deliver on their promises before our contract expires, but for the price I expected a LOT more service, honesty, and transparency.
