Amazing food, even more amazing service.. This place is a hidden gem....I cant say enough good things about it...the food, the service, the prices. We left full and happy, and cant wait to go back.
Left feeling insulted..
My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided to try out Europa because I had heard good things. I was looking for a restaurant that would provide a cozy, romantic atmosphere and great food.
When we walked in at around 8:00, no one greeted us at the door and not a single table was prepared. Since all the tables for two were dirty, we stood at the entrance until the server came and directed us to a table for four in the middle of the room. I hate sitting in the middle of the room at large tables, especially when on a date.
We were left with nothing to feast on but our menus for ten to fifteen minutes, and when our server finally came it was both difficult to hear what she said and to understand her. After we ordered, it took about ten minutes for the bread to arrive. (Though it was as good as everyone says.)
The restaurant was not busy--there were five tables, plus about four or five people at the bar. The server seemed to be busily taking care of the guests as best she could--everyone but us. Somehow, in the table in the middle of the room, we were either forgotten or purposefully ignored.
My boyfriend and I were puzzled and wondered if we had inadvertently insulted our server, because she seemed very friendly (even chatty) and prompt with all of the other diners.
When my meal came, I asked for some more water. My glass was almost empty. The whole time I ate my meal and conversed with my boyfriend, I watched our server whisk drinks and food to the patrons at the other tables, and didn't receive more water until I was well done with my meal.
My boyfriend and I were curious about the desserts, but as we sat in front of our finished plates, napkins on the table, we started to get anxious to leave. Fifteen to twenty minutes passed before our server plopped down the check. We were never offered a dessert menu, even though we saw the next table over being brought dessert.
We left feeling insulted. We'll never go back again.
The best kept secret: Europa a real Italian restaurant in the Northwest.
Being from New Jersey and eating all over NYC, Brooklyn and Staten Island, I know Italian food and this is as good as it gets!
Sauces are light and flavorful. The calimari is the most tender and delightful that I have ever tasted. The food is subtle, not over done with heavy sauces or any of that Northwest nuveau cuisine stuff. If you want good Italian food on equal to what you will find in Italy, you have to go to Europa. Since moving from Tacoma its an hour drive for us to go there, but its worth it. On top of all of that, its so inexpensive its hard to believe.
The wine is very reasonably priced, not an extensive wine list but adequate.
As far as I am concerned there is no place in the Pacific Northwest that is as good as this. Try it, you will love it!
Editorial Review by Jena Vuylsteke. Homemade pastas and sauces help Tuscan traditions come alive at this elegant Tacoma bistro.
Best Little Italian Restaurant in Tacoma. OMG!!! My partner and owd. I went there today for the first time for my birthday. We went for lunch and there was not much of a crowd. The food was amazing. Everything was prepared fresh and served piping hot...even the bread came out fresh from the oven. The prices were reasonable...$22 lunch for two. I highly recommend this little gem. We now have a new favorite place to dine in Tacoma.
Great Food!. Great italian food! You can tell they put pride into there cooking. Service was friendly. I will return to eat there again soon.
Once Great,Needs Work.... A friend and I were in town recently and looked forward to returning to Europa for an elegant dinner after a three year absence. I was really taken aback by the unpleasant lighting, loud noise level and inexperienced server who made us feel rushed... like we were in an Italian cafeteria. This is so different from the experience three years ago. Then the atmosphere was romantic, quiet with subdued lligting. The food is still excellent but my friend and I left feeling very disappointed.
Great Food and People. This has been a great little restaurant in Proctor for years. While not a little anymore (it expanded recently), the northen Italian food is excellent. The best in Tacoma. Highly recommended for small parties. They now take reservations but I have yet to find a problem just walking in.
Proctor Best. My husband and I discovered Europa a few years back. The owners remodeled and expanded the seating area; the ambience changed somewhat but the chefs continue to offer quality food. Someone seems to have a knack for presenting wonderful textures and tastes. We often take our friends there, too, because it's so reliably superb.
One of the best in Tacoma!. My boyfriend and I visited here last week after a friend recommended it. We went on a Thursday night and there weren't very many people dining, so we were a little unsure at first. But after our bottle of wine($30 and the best we've had) and prawns appetizer arrived, we were completely satisfied. The prawns were the best ever with caramelized onions, and we both ordered different steaks, which were cooked to perfection. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for the best atmosphere, food, and service! We will definitely be back!!!
