The Scene – The intimate dining room is appealing in winter, but the garden area is a must for eating outdoors when the weather is warm--enter through a small gate and meander down a narrow brick footpath, to reach an idyllic Tuscan-style garden with a fountain and climbing ivy. – – The Food – Full of gentle bustle and Italian opera, this family-run trattoria boasts authentic Italian food prepared from recipes by the owner's grandmother. No fancy surprises here--just well-prepared food in large portions. Begin with the wonderful antipasto plate, minestrone, or…

Editor's Tips

Spit-roasting:
Roasted meats are a specialty here&#151a combination plate offers three choices from among the savory selection of roasted pork, chicken, turkey, duck, rabbit and more.
Time to Smell the Roses:
Takeout dining is available but with such a beautiful garden, why not take some time to watch the sunset.

Wonderful ambiance

by winewinewinedinedinedine at Citysearch

This is a "feel good" restaurant. You always feel welcome and well taken care of.

In the summer, the outdoors section is filled with customers enjoying the rustic patio. Vines trail up stone walls and fountains splash merrily.

It's a festive atmosphere.

In the cooler months, the indoors is inviting and full of delicious aromas and the happy murmur of contented customers.

The food is always great, but the petrale sole is the best!

Good italian food in sonoma

by arowe00 at Citysearch

Ate dinner there last week. Very nice courtyard dining, straightforward food, with very good service. Wine list has a nice mix of california and italian choices.

Good food, perfect setting

by cableroadway at Citysearch

Three generations of our reasonably sophisticated, well-traveled family had lunch at Della Santina recently. The coutyard setting was delightful on a hot July day. The welcome was warm but beyond that the service was wretched. Our waiter had an incredibly nasty attitude. After we read the menu (with no lack of delicious choices), we inquired about specials. He heaved a frustrated sigh and brought us a printed sheet with a number of specials. They were not priced. When we asked about the prices, he looked at us with a withering look and asked if we REALLY wanted to know the prices for all the specials. He implied "if you have to ask, you can't afford it"

To avoid further unpleasantness, we just ordered off the menu. Delicious cannelloni, a good but cumbersome vegetarian sandwich, good spaghetti and an dull caesar salad. in the final assessment the lousy service dulled a spectacular setting & a good lunch.

Our best meal in Wine Country and just about anywhere else

by raskinco at Citysearch

After spending a week in wine country this was our favorite resturant. Everything was exceptional from the wine to desert. Had the pasta with Rabbit meat sauce which can only be described as foodgasim. It was absolutley incredible. My girlfreind had gnocci with basil tomato sauce which was excellent as well. Great Italian wines and deserts were incredible. I can't recommend this Della Santina's enough. It is worth the drive from anywhere in wine country. There is lots of great food in the area, but this is at the top of the mountain.

Make a reservation and be prepared to wait for the service.

by usrnla at Citysearch

You need a reservation to get in here on a weekend night for sure, so don't forget. But the food is worth it. The special panzanella salad was the best I've ever had, including in Italy! The ravioli is also a work of art. My husband's duck was a little overcooked but flavorful. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service, on the other hand, was very off the night we were there. Just horrible. It took five tries to get a peppermill to the table for our salad, the wine took forever and even simple things like tap water were a struggle. We opted to sit inside, but on a cooler night I would try the beautiful patio.

  • Pros: Ambience, food
  • Cons: Horrible service
