Editorial Review. A husband-and-wife team heads the kitchen at this Santa Rosa staple, where those visiting the local vineyards can stop in for a farm fresh bite with a rustic Italian-American feel.

Solid food and service. We came with a group of 4 and had reservations. We all got lost on the way and were late. We called and they held our reservations, so we were quite thankful as it was Saturday night. The place has a very cool vibe to it and is pleasing to the eye with a coold Sonoma casualness to it.

The wine list is very good. We got some detailed descriptions of wines from the server and bough a bottle based on the recommendation. This was a HUGE mistake. She said our Zin was fruit-driven and big, but it wasn't. While it was not terrible, it was easily the driest Zin I have ever had and not worth the money.

My girlfriend and I ordered the steak (which comes pre-sliced). It arrived cold. In my case at least the plate was a bit warm, but in her case even the plate was ice cold. The waitress probably knew something was up as she asked us if everything was ok with our steaks. We said no. She warmed them up for us, but that kind of ruined the food experience.

The Chef's at Zazu know what they are doing. We've read about this restaurant in VIA (the AAA magazine) a while ago. Last night we finally had a chance to dine there. My husband had the winter white salad and the juniper rubbed duck and I had the polenta with gorgonzola and pine nuts, followed by black trumpet mushroom & ricotta ravioli. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. You can tell it has been created by people who love and care about food. Service was tops: well-coordinated, friendly and attentive.

A great place for a romantic dinner or for dining out with a few friends.
