Poor Transportation Shuttle for Senior Citizens et al – Transportation for Senior Citizens leaves a lot to be desired. My parents both rode the "Free Bus" from Parkrose on May 1st to Spirit Mountain. However, upon leaving at 5:00 p.m. their designated time, the bus driver refused to wait for my father who was inside searching for my Mom. She tried briefly to find my father and started having chest pains (obviously from the stress). The driver refused to wait even 10 minutes even when she told him my father was inside.
Now to the really appalling part, when my mother called me to say the bus had left my father, I immediately called Spirit Mountain to have him paged. After approximately 2 minutes, they said no one answered. I insisted I needed to talk to someone so they could find him to assure him I was on my way to pick him up to allay his obvious fears. I was transferred to Security and told them they needed to find my father because he might be confused and needed that assurance. They said, "sure they would get the message to him", In fact, they just talked with him because he had my mother paged. I was somewhat comforted by that.
However, when I arrived 2 hours later, I had my father paged at which time he came to the front door within 5-10 minutes and he was obvious upset and shaken. When I asked if anyone had given him my message, he said no. He had been walking around there for two hours trying to figure out a way back to Portland without any assistance from anyone. So the bottom line is the Security doesn't give a "#@#%" about the health or welfare of their patrons as long as they're plucking money into their slot machines.
AND SENIOR CITIZENS, WATCH OUT BECAUSE ONCE YOU GET THERE THEY COULD CARE LESS HOW YOU GET HOME, NOT EVEN GIVING CONTINGENCY PLANS ON WHAT TO DO IF THEY ARE LEFT NOR OFFERING ANY ASSISTANCE TO POOR ELDERLY PEOPLE WHO ARE "IN THEIR MINDS" STRANDED.
SHAME SHAME ON YOU SPIRIT MOUNTAIN CASINO.
YOU DEFINITELY NEED A NEW SYSTEM IN PLACE TO ACCOUNT TO THIS PRECIOUS CARGO.
After calling several times upon my return to Portland with my father, I got only people Jonathan of Security who was passing the buck to the Transportation dept. His only solution was to apologize, when I asked was that it, he didn't even offer to investigate. I left a message for the Transportation department...no one returned the call. I called the next day and talked with another person in Transportation and when I suggested they install an apparatus similar to Olive Garden's to account for passengers, her only response was "that's a lot of hardware for 80 passengers". How can you equate the safety and peace of mind of passengers to the amount of hardware required to keep them safe. Spirit Mountain makes millions of dollars on these poor senior citizens who they apparently could caer less about. Or possibly they need different staff to convey the genuine care and concern that should be demonstrated when our senior s are in trouble.
Great time! – My husband and I spent a weekend there (March 2011) and had a blast! We rented out a King Deluxe Room and were amazed at the quality we got for an inexpensive price. Comfortable bed (that's always what I go for), clean linens, clean bathroom with a huge tub, that's awesome for soaking and relaxing, flat screen tv.... just wonderful!
We ate at the Buffet for Dinner on Saturday night, and were blown away by how much they have to offer. We've been to many casino's in the past and this by far is the BEST buffet in Oregon! Great food, great service and the atmosphere was very inviting. We also ate there for brunch Sunday and it was just as wonderful!
Sunday night, hungry as ever, they had a cafe that was open where we ate a quick burger that was super delicious! Wasn't expecting it at all :)
As far as gambling... we never go anywhere expecting to win. Gambling is something that's done for fun and that's what we did!! We left there Monday morning very relaxed and ready to start another work week :)
Not to mention that it's a short 25 minute drive to Lincoln City, OR where the beach is breath taking!
A trend – They have added new games which make more noise but do not pay as well. Ten years ago you could spend a day there and not lose a whole lot. Today a few hours will break you. For some reason the extra perks like bargain room rates do not exist like they are at other casinos. I suspect it is location, they are nicely located so they do not have to be good.
Amazing – I went there for their ICE PARTY last month, AMAZING! Full house with great music. It seems they have changed things up at the new year and are doing a lot of themed party's. Worth the drive out and a lot of fun. Makes for a great weekend: gamble, drinks, smoking if your into that, night club dancing, drinks, buffet, and hotel afterwards! Drinks were a little pricey and the bar wait was not my favorite - but the girls behind the bar made up for that!
Raindrops Nightclub – Dont waste your time but I will list a few
Staff that dont know how to work a bar
No Vip areas...Like NONE!
Dj Oso Fresh ( Worst Dj in NW )
Bad and good – If you were to go there, and stay a night, don't sleep under the comforters! They stink and they haven't them for a year! The nicest thing about the place was the bathroom! It is not a family hotel, they just want you to dump your kids at playworld and go gamble and lose money. The hotel staff is not professional and when we complained about not being able to check out later since we have twins the lady replied "uh-oh" three times! The good thing about it was the cedar plank buffet. It is an improvement from the Coyote buffet which had bad food! I just hope they improve. You have a better bet at Chinook Winds down the road.
Growing And Growing – There aren't many casinos in Oregon but Spirit Mountain fits the bill and the void. Its not Vegas style but it works for now. The buffet is decent during breakfast, the arcade is small, the gaming is filled with gratuitous smoke, and its senior citizen central. The parking lot is typically full and contains a ton of RVs. Its fantastic that they now have a gas station out here and a hotel tower (finally).
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors – Highway 18 gaming destination offers table and slot-machine gambling, buffets, full-service bar, hotel lodging and touring musical entertainment.
