In Short – Located just 80 miles west of Portland, this is the first stop on many a coastal journey. With more than nine miles of accessible beachfront, the beach is perfect for kiters, castle-builders and beachcombers. Its many inns and bed-and-breakfasts also make it a great romantic getaway. The "downtown" is full of cute shops and restaurants where tourists can watch saltwater taffy being stretched, eat tasty chowder and buy beach toys.

It's a beautiful beach

by kee22

Cannon Beach is an excellent stop if you ever go to Oregon. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the water is cold...so most ppl dont go swimming. There's not a lot of things to do there..but it's still worth the trip..because the beach is so pretty.

  • Pros: Beautiful beach
  • Cons: can be very crowded during peak times

Oregon Coast at its best!

If you're looking for entertainment and energy, go to Seaside. However, if you want a relaxing place to go with great food, beautiful beach, and less teenagers swarming around, Cannon Beach will not disappoint you!

The Details on Cannon Beach

When to Go:

During low tide, check out the tide pools around Haystack Rock, which juts dramatically from the coastline some 235 feet. The tide pools are filled with interesting sea creatures. But beware slippery rocks, and leave the tide pools as you found them.

The Extras:

On your way to Cannon Beach, make sure to stop at the world's tallest Sitka spruce tree (216 feet high, 52 feet in circumference), located just off Highway 26.

Know Before You Go:

The beach here is a popular tourist destination, so summers tend to be crowded.
