Upscale luxury on a laid-back island.. The Scene
This hotel originally opened under The Ritz-Carlton imprimatur on the same resort development as The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows. In 1996 it became part of the Sheraton's Luxury Collection. Perhaps the most exciting feature at this resort is its Spa Without Walls. This al fresco facility boasts massage tents and three waterfall teahouses for body treatments, as well as expansive fitness center facilities.

The Details
The rather formal U-shaped hotel provides attentive service, varied activities and 32 acres of gorgeous grounds. The 540 rooms and 54 suites are big and well-appointed, with spacious lanais ideal for leisurely breakfasts. The large bathrooms are done in marble. Diners have the choice of four restaurants, a poolside bar and enormous banquet facilities. As for leisure, there is a sprawling 10,000-square-foot pool, two lava whirlpools, a meticulously tended beach with a private cove for swimming and a complete list of water sports. The tennis courts and golf course are superb. The Keiki Aloha program offers plenty of activities for kids 5 to 12. Guests also enjoy the warm hospitality of the "beach boys" who teach ocean sports, lead historic hikes and stargazing gatherings.
