The Scene
It's just a hole in the wall, but it's legendary. The Bottleneck is a required stop for any up-and-coming band traveling cross-country. It's perfectly laid out so none of the show is missed during a trip to the bar, making it a perfect hangout for music fans. Set changes can be passed with a game of pool or a round of video games. If there's no live music, the club hosts Trivia Smackdown, a game show anyone can play, and chases it with a boisterous round of karaoke.
The Draw
The coolest kids hang out, regardless of who's playing. They take up residence in the wooden booths and bleachers, drinking a beer from the extensive selection of microbrews and watching acts like Powderfinger and Reverend Horton Heat.

You can tell this place has been around a while. They bring great bands to this venue, and it's such an intimate setting (well, perhaps intense is more accurate). There's only enough room for a few hundred people within stage view, and at the other end, they've got booths and pool tables - good for set breaks, but you won't want to miss the shows! I HIGHLY recommend this venue. The only downside (arguably) is that most of their shows are all-ages. Thankfully, they've got a water cooler at the end of the bar, so they don't clog up the drink line. Now that they've banned smoking in Lawrence, I really don't have any complaints about this place. I'm seeing Gogol Bordello tonight, and I predict awesomeness!!!

It may not be the nicest bar in town, but the drinks are cheap and the music is nearly always the best you'll find! Before the show or during the set break you can browse photographs of some of the legendary bands who have graced the stage at the Bottleneck. The best local, regional and national touring bands frequent this venue, and witnessing a show at 'the neck' is truly an intimate experience!

Larryville is the home of the Lawrence High School Chesty Lions, and what better place to show Larry pride than at one of the town's best bars, The Bottleneck. They serve stiff drinks for kids who want to get drunk fast, not to mention the choice mix of tunes that can be heard on any given night. Several of the Larry bands that play there aren't half bad either... Full Feature especially.
