Only a two-hour drive from Denver, Breck is an ideal spot for day skiing or a weekend getaway.. The Scene
Though it lacks the glitz of resorts such as Aspen and Vail, Breckenridge has become one of the most popular ski resorts in Summit County. It offers the charms of a former mining town, some good chow and a comfy ski-bum mentality.

The Slopes
This resort offers great intermediate skiing. The slopes aren't as steep as those at other Colorado resorts, making it an excellent place to perfect skills. However, Breck does not lack challenges: The mogul runs are extremely difficult. Also, despite the modest vertical, Breck's 2358 acres make it the fourth-largest ski area in the state, offering lots of fresh territory to explore. Three shuttle routes--two for ski areas, one for parking lots--snake through town. Rides are free.

Love the skiing. Loved skiing here. The hotel we had was ski in/out so we were right on the lifts. The skiruns are long and you can ski a different route everyday. The lines were kind of long in the mid-day but that was okay. The free shuttle around the (small) town was cool. This is a good place for skiing and going drinking and hanging out afterwards. No fabulous restaurants and no movie theatre and most of the stores are ski shops in this small town so if you are looking for something to do but drink and hang out after a day of skiing, to me this is not the place. I saw everything on the first night in the town. But overall I had a good time. I would go back.

Great mountain, great town. I'm from Michigan, where glorified landfills serve as our "mountains." I LOVED Breckenridge! Admittedly, I'm a beginner, so I didn't get to some of the more challenging slopes, but I loved their beginner hills. Just enough slope to have fun, and a bit of terrain variety. We went the weekend after Thanksgiving, and the lines on Saturday were terrible, but on Sunday and Monday there were great. The town is also tons of fun. Very easygoing, with tons of shops, restaurants, and bars. We didn't have to drive anywhere the whole time we were there.

New Lift adds New Heights to Breckenridge. I get annoyed at people who consistently dis Breck for its flats and less than thrilling vertical. I have lived here for 8 years and the mountain rocks - you just have to be good enough to access it. The new Imperial lift (opening 2005/2006) brings you to more adv. int./expert terrain only available before by hiking. If you are just a basic blue skier, Keystone offers longer runs. If you're up for the thrill, experience the top of Peaks 7 & 8.

Blue skier lady. We have always enjoyed coming to Breck. Family vacation at its finest. Affordable, and always something to do - even for non-skiiers. Always stay at High Country Lodge with lots of family and friends. The scenery is breathtaking. Prefer February or March skiing. There is a slope for everyone. Snowboarding is big for the younger ones, but the seniors are happy too.

This is not DOWNHILL skiing, it's pushing.... Cannot believe that Breck is recommended. You'll get a great workout there, a good upper body workout that is - you'll spend half your time pushing across flat areas just to get back in the lift line.

Crowds and wind. Breckenridge is an Indian word that means "always windy". Add that to the crowds and enough said.

Not a Breck Guy. Lower level skiers will think it's great once they get past the crowds and long lift lines. Good intermediates and above should look elsewhere. The tremendous amount of long flat trails and ho hum skiing doesnt compensate for the runs that are worth skiing and then you have to get in line again. Breck has its place though, which is why it draws a lot of skier visits. Nice town but the building codes make it look more like an authentic CO town than it really is but thats OK too because the town lacks that Mall like character youll find at other resorts. O if you must but I would use Breck as a camp for the other resorts.

Great Learn To Ski. Great ski school for kids and adults. Tons of great instructors on hand and plenty of terrain/room - even on the busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend. If you're serious about learning - and not picking up bad habits that will haunt you later - check out the unlimited (group) lessons deal (good Thurs-Sun). If you're lucky, you may even be a group of one! Been up for two days of lessons so far and loved it. Jane and Larry (instructors) rock!

Great Place!. This is the third time my husband and I have visited. We enjoy bringing family and friends to experience the mountain, town and Vail. Coming from the Northeast the powder is great, considering we are used to ice. Skiing is perfect for beginners to advanced. We love to get lift tickets and use a day or two at Vail (only 45 minutes away) which has another 5K+ acres. However Vail's shopping and restaurants are not as great as Breckenridge. The quaint Victorian Breckenridge is our first choice for skiing in Colorado.
