volcano...need i say more? – As a home town girl, this place is amazing! i go away and the place never changes! its a small town with great history! go hiking, see the sites. btw you do have to pay to hike and to visit some visitor centers. but worth the money!
It's a good place to visit – It's really interesting learning about Mt. St. helens..especially since it has been really active lately. We went a couple of years back before it started erupting again..and it was cool to learn about the volcano's history...the facilities are pretty nice...hopefully, it wont have any major eruptions anytime soon.
A real live volcano, right in our own backyard. – In Short
On May 18, 1980, the mountain awoke from 123 years of sleep with an eruption that spewed ash and debris for miles. The explosion took 1,300 feet off the mountain, and forever changed the landscape of the Pacific Northwest. Covering 110,000 acres, the National Monument has hiking trails, learning centers, picnic areas and breathtaking views throughout. See a panoramic view from the Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center, or visit the Johnson Ridge Observatory to see the still-steaming lava dome.
Mt.ST.Helens NVM – One side is like the Moon, desolate, barren, craggy, lifeless.
The other side is green, full of vegatation, full of life.
For a truely unique experience,at the power of Nature, this site is THE very best place to visit.
Mount St Helens – Just make sure you go on a clear day. Its hard to see through fog or a cloudy day.
However, very worth the trip!
More History created in Oregon on that faithful day a few years ago.
Mt. St. Helens – Just standing in view of this magnificent volcano is breath taking.
I was disappointed with the site. Don't take your dog if you plan on hiking with him - they aren't allowed on too many trails - and good luck finding those. Public access is very limited to pavement.
10 – You will not use the word "awesome" lightly after seeing Mount St Helens.
Volcano!!! Awe inspiring!! – A real time volcano; what could be a better attraction to the Portland area and Mother Nature did it all herself. Interesting to the Max! A new pristine environment to be watched as it unfolds.
Amazing sight – I haven't been to St. Helens in probably five years, but it is an incredible place, even 22 years after the big eruption. You can still see the trees laying like toothpicks where they fell, and many other dramatic reminders of May 18. It's amazing how nature can bounce back after such trauma. Take a picnic and spend the whole day sightseeing and hiking. It's something you won't forget. Check out the Ape Caves, too.
