I absolutely hate this gym.
I have been a member of another local gym and went to Pure Fitness simply to get a hip hop class on Thursday nights. I signed up at the Tacoma club by TCC. I went to this one and the one off Hosmer. I was a member for 9 mos and never went. Here is why.
Remember the hip hop class I specifically signed up for? Well I went and it was very clearly a specific dance group that held their practice at that day and time. It was adults and kids that had a choreographed routine they practiced and performed at local things like a high school dance team competition half-time break. I actually recognized them and their name from a high school dance team competition that my team participated in. So, in short, it was not this open hip hop aerobics class that was marketed as such and on the schedule.
The sales guys are smooth and they are actually the ones to give you your first workout. It seemed odd that this guy was dressed in slacks, button shirt and shoes and was working me out. I later realized he wasn't certified at all.
The monthly free workout is a joke. It's a ploy to get you in there and SELL SELL SELL. Turnover is so bad I had a diff person each of my 3-4 times. One guy used my number to call and pick me up, try to get me to come over and told me about some girl he got pregnant at his church. He was also not certified.
They told me my ultimate weight should be 138. I worked out at my OTHER gym and got down to 132 myself. I came in and they treated me as if i was a newbie, refused to look up my card, measured and harassed me and told me based on calculations I needed to lose at LEAST 10 more lbs. He was so incredibly rude and demeaning. Continued to refuse to look up my old card and see how much I had already lost and I told him the OTHER trainer said 138 would be perfect for my body type.
I cancelled. They continued to bill. Turned me into collections. When i call they admit it's their fault. But they cannot fix it.
- Pros: parking wasn't bad. equipment is good.
- Cons: class was not an open/public class. harassing. rude. all about money. they don't communicate at all between staff. Hours SUCKED.

I have been a member for over three years. I have always been active but since joining I have been to the top of Mt. Whitney in California (14497 ft), done the STP twice and I'm getting ready for a triathlon. All these since I turned 50 years old. I would have never accomplished these goals without club to keep me in shape especially thru the winter. I do get frustrated by broken machines, and I am my own trainer, but my body fat is down from 20% to 12% in years. Eat well and exercise! The staff are friendly and will give you a few tips for free and if you buy trainer time, it's till up to you to stick to a diet and create an exercise regimen for life.
- Pros: open 24 hours weekday, lots of equipment, lots of cardio option
- Cons: Monday Morning, Should be 24 hr daily
