Editorial Review for Engine House No 9 – by Anna Roth

In Short
Antique parachutes and ladders hanging from the ceiling emphasize the firehouse theme of this atmospheric brewpub. Students from nearby University of Puget Sound pour into the bar for karaoke on Thursdays and Saturdays, while a more laid-back crowd comes for Sunday's live jazz. A devoted group of regulars make up the "beer club," those who have sampled all 47 beers served. The restaurant menu is standard pub grub--try the creamy/spicy fire pasta.

Nicely located just off of 6th Ave. and Pine Street in Tacoma. They've updated the menu and have added an item or two in each section of the menu as well as having a lunch and dinner special of the day for all seven days of the week. I've never had anything but good service from the wait staff, and have gotten my meal in a timely manner. The burgers and salads are great, but I hear the Fish (Halibut) and Chips is awesome too. Also if you get there in the evening parking may be a premium, since there are a lot of other good restaurants in the area. I'd give this place a two thumbs up.

We went as a group there to have a work function. It was booked in advance, upon arrival the staff was very rude, it took a long time to just get our drinks and we could not order off of the main menu. We had 4 things that we could choose from and they were poor choosings. Once we got our food it was of poor quallity and a couple of people did not get there food until everyone had almost left the event. When someone in our group made a comment about everyone being gone and you are just now getting your food, the waitress came back with a responce that there were other people in the place, that we were not the only people. Remember that this event was booked in advance, so they should have had more staff on hand to handle this occasion. I will never go back to this place to eat again.

Pros: None

Cons: Everything about it stunk
