The Experience – In a storefront in downtown Tacoma, the Children's museum offers hands-on activities in a fun, colorful space. Kids can grow a garden and sell their plastic fruit and veggies at a kid-sized farmer's stand, create an art project, put on a play, curl up with a good book in a book nook or explore physics with fun gears and gadgets. In comparison with the Seattle Children's museum, the Children's Museum of Tacoma is less expensive, less crowded and well worth the trip. – – Features – One of the best parts of the museum is a well-stocked art studio…

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Each exhibit has a "play guide" you can take with information on how to enhance your child's experience of that exhibit and suggestions for at home activities and resources to help your child's learning and fun continue after his or her visit.
The Extras:
The By the Sea area is a special play area created just for infants and toddlers. Kids love the fishpond filled with water and plastic fish they "catch" with a kid size pole.

Great Ideas - Too Small for Them

by prochatting at Citysearch

We drove from Issaquah to try this museum out. We went on a Thursday since it was free this month. We were a bit disappointed. It was difficult to find - not a lot of signage. And parking was a bear. The only parking nearby was 1 hr only. The staff was very firendly and helpful. And if there was only more room - like twice the space - it would be worth it. It's packed into such a small area it's a bit overwhelming and the kids (two year old twins and a 4 year old) were bored quickly.

  • Pros: ideas for exhibits, friendly staff, nice promos
  • Cons: much too small, lack of parking, needs more signage
