A secluded house that provides more than just a room with a view. – The Scene
To describe this post-and-beam, shingle house set on a cliff as romantic simply doesn't do it justice. Situated in its very own forest, on 400 feet of waterfront, this 1981 San Juan floating-style home offers its own private driftwood-filled beach, gardens, 14 acres of land to explore and a view across Admirality Inlet to the Olympic Mountains.
This singular property has won nine architectural awards, and it's easy to see why, with its all stone floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, and a roofless, glass-enclosed atrium that allows it to rain right in the center of the house. You won't find doors on any of the rooms (except the bathrooms and bedrooms), but don't let that stress you out. Only one couple (or two couples traveling together) has the run of the place during their entire stay. The house is located on a shipping lane, so guests can sit in bed and watch tugboats and shipping traffic glide by at night. A small cottage nearby rents separately.
