Whohoo! I love Garlic, you snob! – I'm not sure about the other reviewer of this restaurant, but I have enjoyed this place of business. I have to say that when I first went in many years ago, it wasn't the hottest experience. I remember not liking it so much and not having a desire to go back. My wife dragged me back in a few months ago, and whoa - things had changed. All of the food was great! Fresh, friendly service, and great flavor. Overly Garlicly? Hmm... Not overly, but I am one of the few in Bellingham that actually enjoys flavor. Leave it to others to eat cardboard - I enjoy flavors! The waitstaff was new and quick enough, and appologised for her lack of speed even though there wasn't any problems.
I rarely give 5 stars for anything, but I'd give 4 1/2 from the last experience alone. This place deserves a try.
Mediocre food with friendly yet slow service – I've had good Greek food. I've had great Greek food - Greek town in Detroit, MI is where you go for great Greek food. New York has fine Greek food. Victoria, BC - an also ran, but good. Whereas Bellingham - not so much. This small yet very assuming cafe has all the hallmarks of what might be a good Greek restaurant - minimalist Mediterranean artwork, candles, vines, tables outside.
It's just that getting to your table might be a bit of a chore. On a Saturday night, with a half-full restaurant, getting a table for two took about ten minutes. We were asked if we had a reservation, which was a bit odd.
Getting service - and the service was friendly - took even longer. There were two servers for a half-full restaurant, and while the menu was delivered quickly, getting our order taken took quite a while. Getting drinks took longer still, and we made the mistake of ordering appetizers as the main course. This, of course, meant that they couldn't bring the meal out piecemeal, and we had to wait about thirty minutes for dinner to arrive with nary a pita bread to munch on.
This would be fine had the food been passable. The saganaki was rubbish - I haven't seen it prepared with brandy before, and wouldn't prefer to see that again. Hummus was passable, tzatziki was overly garlicky, the stuffed grape leaves were mediocre to poor, and the pita was at least fresh. The wine list (by the glass) was mediocre but inexpensive, while the bottles were par for course with a couple good values (the Coppola) thrown in for good measure.
Not recommended, not advised, you'll burp up garlic for the rest of the evening.
Best Greek food ever! – Cafe Akroteri has the best Greek food that me or my family has ever had! Very authentic~ The restaurant is quiet & cute, the food is just amazing. They have the best home made Greek Salad dressing on earth! you must check out this restaurant, if you don't, you haven't lived! :) And No, I don't work here, just a fan!
