Average Asian Restaurant disguised as a "grill" – The problem with this place is that it's trying to be something it is not. It's trying to be a grill that serves all kinds of foods from burgers to salads to asian food, but all it can really pump out is averagely bland Chinese food.
I ordered the Thai Ahi and was asked how I'd like it cooked. I said "rare" and this made me assume that it would arrive seared. Instead it was chopped up into cubes and cooked until it was done. It tasted like a cross between canned tuna and chicken breast. The sauce was not at all Thai. Nothing about it was Thai. It tasted like an average, and a bit bland, Chinese sauce. Vegetables were cooked nicely though.
My brother ordered the grilled halibut and fries. The asparagus he got with it was just the stalky bit and had no tips. The tips must have been on somebody else's plate. The halibut was very overcooked and dry. The fries were cooked in the same oil as something else and so little bits of sweet n' sour tasting chunks were on the plate.
My mom had something else and I can't remember what it was. She also was not impressed, although it wasn't horrible.
I'm not a fussy person and I don't normally write reviews. Give me a decent burger, or an OK piece of Ahi and I'm fine. This restaurant just doesn't have a clue what it's doing so I felt compelled to write a review to warn others.
In summary, go to the Island grill if you want to eat non-spicy, non-flavorful Chinese food and no other type of food, and you want to pay $15 for an entree.
Standard Food, Bad Service – I've been here several times and am always disappointed with the service. Long waits, wrong orders, inattentiveness. THe food is unremarkable, although the desserts are excellent and the prices are fair to good.
