Combining casual island life with modern cuisine, this small cafe turns out fare worth a ferry ride. Frequent menu changes balance out neighborhood favorites, making it a mecca for foodies and a family hangout for those lucky enough to call Bainbridge home.
The Food
Roasted tomato-goat cheese bruschetta and pig skewers with mango chutney, as well as a curried lamb barley soup, are admirable appetizers. Roasted pork with garlic-flavored mashed potatoes earn solid comfort-food status, especially when accompanied by a mushroom-laden demiglace. Pan-seared scallops rest plumply on tasty grits cakes and benefit from an ample moat of bright roasted-pepper sauce. Even better is a dense bittersweet-chocolate "pudding" topped with soft whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Cafe Nola was featured on Food Network, which I believe has been the destruction of this cute little cafe. Food is pretty good, and so are the prices. But really the best part about this restaurant is the ferry boat ride to get there, and the walk from the dock into town. Even with a reservation wait times can be quite long on weekends, and just today I have found out that they lost the reservation I made in February for Mothers Day, leaving me high and dry with no plans. After being passed off to three different people ended up on the phone with frazzled and rude hostess, who didn't make any accommodations for their mistake of losing my reservation. My advice: Go on a weekday, make reservations, call at least once to verify reservations, and enjoy the ferry boat ride.

the 5 of us ate brunch at Cafe Nola today. i had the eggs benedict, the lemon hollandaise was delicious, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. aside from my potatoes being a little too al dente, everything was great. other things that were ordered were the pecan french toast, crab benedict, the crab melt, and the fish and chips, all receiving rave reviews. we look forward to eating here and trying something new from their menu- everything sounded so delicious.
