Richard A Jensen OD, Ophthalmology – I have experienced extreme medical and physical harm and I believe it was due to improper medical Ophthalmology services from Dr. Richard Jensen.
During my visit with Dr. Jensen I was diagnosed with having Vitreous Separation in my left eye. Another doctor, in the same clinic, referred me to Dr. Jensen and they had on record my medical records that showed prior complications in my other eye such as retinal detachment, blepharitis, and subconjunctival hemorrhaging. Still Dr. Jensen stated that Vitreous Separation is common in the aging process and should not pose any major concern to my left eye.
Within one day after the visit I called the clinic and talked with Dr. Jensen. I told him that my left eye was getting worse. The doctor assured me everything would be okay and only call if I see cobwebs. Within the next few days I called the clinic again and spoke with Jill, the nurse. I told her that I was seeing floaters, some flashes and blurry vision. Also I was going on vacation to the Rocky Mountains and wanted to confirm it was okay to go. She said not to worry unless I saw cobwebs or a black curtain.
While on vacation I experienced an abrupt retinal detachment that resulted in a major rip in the center of my eye and a temporary loss of 70% of my vision.
I immediately went to see a local doctor in the area. The doctor informed me that I had a detached retina in my left eye. He also stated that Vitreous Separation could lead to retinal detachment and he was surprised Dr. Jensen didn’t warn me of this. Also he should have asked me to immediately come back in after receiving my initial calls.
I immediately called a specialist to arrange surgery and had my wife drive me home. The risk was higher because we had to drive over four mountain passes and this caused more complications to my eye.
Dr. Jensen should have asked me to immediately come back in after receiving my initial calls. I would have never traveled to the Rocky Mountains if I knew that Vitreous Separation could lead to retinal detachment and have gone through a more thorough diagnosis.
The surgery (in repairing the retina detachment) wasn’t completely successful and there is nothing to improve my current situation. I expect to have long term distortion of vision, loss of vision, seeing double, extreme headaches, and a hard time driving or working.
I called and complained to VM Clinic where Dr. Jensen practices medicine. They said they would investigate the complaint and get back to me. That was the last time I heard from them.
