This motel is a small, quaint, owner on site and owner maintained in a village in northern, VT. The rooms are clean and cheerful. It is an older motel, but this adds to the character of the establishment. Of course the pool is not open in the winter- outdoor pool....Vermont......I would assume it would be iced over. The pool is a pleasant place to spend a summer day, surrounded by a lovely garden and many flowers. I would choose this motel over any chain motel.

Pros: clean- quaint-small town flavor

Cons: no continental breakfast

I priced just about every motel within a 50 miles radius,. I needed to be in Hygate for the weekend. Unfortunately there was a graduation in Burlington, and some kind of a marathon in a nearby town, so motels were mostly booked in Burlington and Saint albans. I found the Swanton Motel and it had a nice website, which gave it some credulity. I called and was asured that the rooms were no pets and no smoking which I really appreciated. I called and got a price of $69.99 plus tax. there was no getting any discounts from these people. I decided to go for it even though I was offered a nice fancy room at the Hygate B&B for the same price, mainly because the Swanton motel had a pool. When I got there, I was immediately dissappointed. Although the rooms were clean as advertised, They were old! The rooms really need updating. Some paint, modern appliances. the TV was old and small. The toilet was out of date and kept plugging up. When I called the front desk, the owner asked: " How about if I bring you a plunger." No attempt to unplug it, I had to do it. The walls must be very thin because My daughter and I were awakened both nights several times by TV, talking and banging in adjoining rooms. Both nights I had a poor nights sleep. These were absolutely $30 rooms, that they charged $70 for. Service was poor. I have stayed in thousands of motel and hotel rooms across the country and never have I been told "How about I bring you up a plunger." The plumbing in the bathroom is way outdated. I tried to take a bath, and the tub doesnt hold water, the drain plug don't work. but it didnt make any difference because the water got called and stopped every few minutes. I would not come back to this motel at any price!

Pros: This room was clean and neat.

Cons: noisy thin walls, bad plumbing, tub and toilet.no assistance with a blocked toilet drain.
