Petaluma >Maselli M & Sons Inc.
WOW. You have to see this place. One of Petaluma's hidden treasures. One of the most comprehensive hardware stores I have been in anywhere. And a huge organized salvage yard out back! Not to mention cute girls working up front ha they really no what there doing here, will be my one stop shop from here on out. American made products too!
In Love with this Place!
Having been going to Maselli's Hardware for years I felt the need to write an HONEST review of this gem of a hardware store. For starters, I've got to say that I've never had a poor experience in there-in fact quite the opposite. It's a pipe-dream. (no pun intended ;) lol And this place carries pipes, lots and lots of 'em...AND ohhh so much more 8-)
Apparently they've been open for over 50 years which is quite a feat in itself but doesn't surprise me in the least as they've managed to accumulate more materials in their salvage/scrap yard then I believed God made on planet Earth..haha, seriously though it's gotta be seen to be believed. 7 acres of RAW,. UNFETTERED, steel goodness, new and used materials of all styles shapes and makes. Signs, beams, lights, engines, motors, cables, rudders, gutters etc etc. Creativity unscrewed! Most INCREDIBLE part is- it's insanely well displayed/organized. -And they are local family owned and operated. Big plus in my book. They also sport a recycle center! I suppose this lays testament to how they've managed to cram as many materials in that steel yard as they have. Honestly, it's a marvel, and I'll say it again but it has to be seen to be believed. When you hike around in a place and walk past a Civil War era wood burning stove, then notice to the right of you is a GIANT shed full of RUSTIC cog wheels and to the left are chain links the size of car tires well you know your in a special place...you are not in Kansas anymore. It's gotta be one of the most jaw dropping metal yards in the country, no joke-and I've been to a few. And the workers their really do help you. They give a damn and they know the place like the back of their hand. They even load all the materials in the car for you!!! I tried to tip the poor kid once but he wouldn't have any of that. _whew_ There are certainly "characters" at Maselli's as well as some spitfire scenes -at times it's like something out of a movie script! Movie Script...ahaa might be on to something now-complete with storytellers young bucks and old timer personalities. Dare they make a movie?! (;
I think if you have any love for metal, salvage or extraordinaire your SOUL NEEDS TO VISIT THIS PLACE. Truly a "one-of-a-kind find."
M. Maselli & Sons. A salvage goldmine!
My vote is in.
Great place real people.
Jim, was just a dream he really helped me.
very capable, nice, and fair..... they were very busy and I was greatful to have gotten to meet and be helped by Jim
I was treated with respect and was happy to see the wide variety of materials they carried.... this business certainly is a rare breed I hope people do not think they are Costco,
they are Unique not Eunuch
The Worst Service Ever... Jim Really Needs To Get Some.
I arrived at the place about 3:30 in the afternoon and was directed to the back of the lot to look at steel while I waited 30-45 minutes to be helped by one of the employees, who kept telling me he would be with me in just a second. He also took other customers in front of me. I patiently waited. I was building a custom piece of equipment and was flexible on what kind of materials I could use so we spent around an 1 hour picking out the materials and I noticed that none of the prices were much lower than buying them new. Finally picked almost everything out just needed to confirm prices with the owner. I heard someone asking what time is it as if to run the customers off that hadn't finished shopping.
After doing some calculations, I determined that I need to change a few things. By this time Jim apparently one of the owners was there and I tried discussing with him what was needed. He was apparently in no need of someone who wanted to spend $3000 - 5000 especially after 5:00 p.m. We discussed pricing and how he charged for cuts on metal. He was spurting out open ended calculation and talking over my head only because he wasn't connecting the dots on how he was making these calculations. He also stated that he had been doing this for 50 years and that he wasn't stupid. I told him no one called him stupid. I just thought the prices were very high for scrap and that I didn't understand how he was making the calculations not that they were wrong. I also asked for 10-20 minutes more on the yard to complete the order that way they could get started on fulfilling it first thing in the morning because I needed it to do the job. He wasn't having it. So he told his employee to finish wrapping things up and he would take care of me. A customer who was there and heard him explaining the cutting costs to me tried to explain it to me as he Jim was walking to his office and I told him don't worry about it if this guy is going to treat me like this I don't want to do business with him. So Jim turns around and says "you know what buddy forget it" and tears up the paper that had the order on it...
OK Jim you f*&%$n retard. You been doing this for 50 years. And this is all you have learned. You will be doin it for another 50 years while I'm sitting on the beach enjoy my money at 35. I bet I had more money in my car that day than you have in your bank. I've made more money in the last year than you will in the next 20 retard. I have bought more steel privately in the last 5 years than you have over the last 50 and I had someone else do it for me so I don't need to do the calculation but If we need to talk calculations lets do it. I'm was a Pre-Med Biochem Student with honors. I own over 8000 acres, I have 20 Million dollars in Heavy Equipment some of it which is patented under my name..I've been around welding and metal yard my whole life and the successful ones don't treat their customers like that. The list goes on and on you retard and I'm only 30. I've only been doing it for 20 years. F^&k you!!!! You missed out on $3000-5000 which is a lot for you, bum. You didn't get the drop on me Jim I wasn't going to do business with you first, then you said what you said. I finished with your an idiot and need to get your d@#k sucked because your too uptight. Your lucky I didn't knock your f&**(ing teeth out..
My Name is Clint Baldwin I'm the one with the Southern Accent that you took for a fool. You can look me up anytime you think you can do somn about it..
What a disrespectful company/family member!. A few weeks back I was asking Jim (the son) Maselli about some items I needed for a project, nothing big standard steel items and such. He strung me along for about a week and then when I told him I really needed to know if their company would be able to help us out, or if they even had the stuff available, the guy completely came un-glued and blew up on me completely unprovoked (can you say wack-job). I have no idea how a company like this is still around and in business with the likes of a guy like this working there. Family member or not, no one deserves to be treated in a maner like the way he treated me. I guess they don't have a very big need for personal refferals or additional business. I had heard that these folks were a little slow, but I was not prepared to be verbally insulted from someone I was asking for help and was willing to pay. I guess they must be doing so well that they think they can treat CUSTOMERS like hell. Not in my world. I will never recommend this company and anyone thinking of having dealings with them I would definitely think twice before getting into bed with them. From what I understand, this kind of treatment happens quite often. If you have to drive a little further to find what you need instead of using this company, I would drive a litte further and spare yourselves the almost guaranteed verbal abuse or be-littling experiance. If I wanted something like that, I would have stayed married to my X-wife. Good luck out there. To bad for Petaluma, such a great town and to have locals like this ruin and mar the place.
