Awesome sweet tea! Onion rings are great! They can be shared with 2-3 others if you're ordering a meal. I haven't had anything that WASN'T good there, so surely I'm there when the good cooks are working. :-)) Besides, everyone has different tastes & likes. That's why there are different restaurants...stick with the ones YOU like. I'm sticking with Clear Springs.
Affordable – When we went for lunch it was packed. Not a bad thing for them but we needed to get something quick. We let our waitress know that we were in a hurry and she got our food out to us quickly! I ordered the chicken club salad and my co-workers ordered chicken fried steak and the fisherman's platter. My salad was really good, but the chicken fried steak seemed to have too much gravy on it. My friend really liked his fisherman's platter with both fried catfish and shrimp... he ate it all! Practicall licked the plate. Overall good place to eat!
disappointed – I ordered combo crawfish etouffee and coconut shrimp w/ a side of green beans, dirty rice, and hush puppies. the sides for this combo originally comes w/ french fries, pinto beans, cole slaw and hush puppies. I also ordered cajun gumbo. Crawfish etouffee tasted like a marinara sauce w/ crawfish in it. The bell pepper used in this dish was not tender at all. Let's just say, this crawfish etouffee tasted like spaghetti w/ crawfish and rice. The hush puppies were very overcooked. It was not moist, but hard and crunchy. The cajun gumbo was decent. I thought it had too much green bell pepper than anything else. The coconut shrimp was a bit dry for me. The sauce that came with it was mediocre. I found that it did not compliment the shrimp as much. The green beans were excellent. I think that's the only thing that I actually enjoyed. Overall, I will not be coming back to this restaurant.
Hot and Spicey – Went there with my daughter on a recommend from on of her co-workers. Twenty minute wait on Friday evening, which isn't bad. Saddled up at the bar to try one of their Margaritas. I've never had a Margarita that was clear. By the third one, after some 'coaching' of the bartender (ya gotta add some lime juice and triple sec), I got an outstanding Margarita on the rocks.
The Stingers are a definite 'Must'. Fresh jalapeno, stuffed with catfish/shrimp, breaded and deep fried. Share them, they are too much for one person if you order dinner.
Dinner was a 'bit much'. I had the blackened catfish etouffee. The catfish was overdone, probably because the fillet was too thin. And it was more than 'sneaky' spicey. It was 'in your face' spicey.
Go there for a drink and appetizer.
Editorial Review – Popular statewide chain offers country cooking with hand-breaded catfish, oysters, chicken fried steak and onion rings; lighter grilled menu available.
Fried food – Not the best if your watching your diet too much fried food on the menu not enough listed for low salt & fat.
