beware ripoffs ... – Beware the unscrupulous ownership and waitstaff at this restaurant; on a recent visit, we left a good tip (approximately 20 percent); when I received my credit card statement, I discovered the tip had been increased to 30 percent by the waiter and/or owners. They were completely uncooperative on providing a refund; fortunately, my credit card company credited me with the amount they attempted to steal, after I provided them my copy of the receipt. Go to Dat's, instead, for Vietnamese when in Corpus Christi ...
Terrible Experience – We came in for a nice quiet meal on Saturday night. We arrived at 9:20 and were seated in the back. We ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. Half way through our dinner, at 10:05, the waitstaff started mvoing all of the tables out of the dining room. The removed EVERY SINGLE table but the one we were at and the table beside us- a 6 top that came in after we did. We asked what was going on and were told they were shampooing carpets on Sunday. We heard one of the waitstaff, dressed in a t-shirt and grubby shorts say "it's after 10, let's turn up the lights then they will get the point.". The manager did not come out and apologize, the waiter told us if we came back, he would do something nice for us next time and handed us a bill for $93.00.
I don't mind paying for good food, good service and ambience. However, when the ambience is removed and we feel we must finish our dinner at home because the waitstaff are staring at us waiting to move the table...I am not amused. That was absolutely appauling service. The waitstaff was rude and we won't be back.
Avoid this disappointing restaurant. – If you want overpriced, overcooked pseudo-Asian food, this is your spot. Two appetizers, two entrees (one meatless) and two coffees cost us over $70. I have no problem paying top dollar for a top dollar meal. This was NOT it. Add to that the $4.00 charge for a small dish of curry sauce (needed to make my husband's fish dish palatable) and the waiter who tried to explain the lag in service by making "jokes" about the owner's "100-year-old mother" who allegedly was in the kitchen trying to remember how to make spring rolls and you have an experience that is a disappointing rip-off. If this is what passes for fine dining in Corpus, I pity the poor citizens of that town. The owners should have spent less money on the gaudy decor and more on a chef who can deliver the goods. Especially at the prices they're charging. Horrible place.
pricey pricey – going on the advice of the other two reviews here we decided Vietnam was worth a try. We just moved to Corpus Christi from Houston and were trying to find our vietnamese food fix. I was instantly put off by the decor, but our waitress was sharp if a little pushy. I was really looking for some yummy noodles, and the other review here had said they had a good selection, but the waitress informed us that they were trying to do a more 'gourmet' menu and had therefore removed the noodle dishes but she could accomodate with a side of vermicelli if I liked. We ordered some Japanese beer, Asahi black my favorite! And only 4 bucks! Then we ordered the curry coconut and black pepper shrimp with the side of noodles. The food was timely and good, but the dinner salad did dissapoint. The dessert tray was seriously lacking as it looked like the kind of pre-fab 'goumet' mousse desserts that come frozen to restaurants, but I was really wanting something sweet so I got the creme brulee, because you can't fake caramelized sugar. Then the bill came and, guess what, 9 dollars for the 'side' of noodles! A 75 dollar bill for 2 entrees, 1 dessert, a coffee, and 3 beers! That meal would have been 30 dollars max in any of our favorite vietnamese restaurants in Houston and the portions would have been larger. The only thing gourmet about Vietnam was the price.
Best Restaurant in Corpus! – So, you think you don't like asian food, huh? Put down that chorizo! Let go of that brisket! Get yourself to Vietnam Restaurant as fast as you can! This is the best restaurant in Corpus. But you have to be willing to try something new in order to enjoy it. If you are shy you can start with the chicken wings (Cahn Ga Chien Bo).
They are delicious and addicting! But if you want to try a dish that will put your own mom's cooking to the test try the Half a Braised Chicken ( Ga Roti). It is so tender and nicely spiced you will be wondering why you haven't been eating it every day of your life. Yes, if you like noodles and rice dishes they have a wonderful selection. But it's the rare and special items that set this restaurant apart. For recommendations ask the friendly servers or the owners Boc and Lien (pronounced "Lynn"). They are about the nicest people you'll ever meet and they run this place with Lien's family. Her brother Tony Lam is the head chef with other brothers on hand as sous chefs. Even her mother is present to help grow the wonderful basil that spices the curries so nicely. Tony Lam deserves much more credit than he is getting. If you are visiting Corpus, go find out for yourself.
Wonderful Dining Experience – This is my favorite restauant in Corpus Christi, and everyone I take here falls in love with it also. The food is very interesting and delicious, and the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. They also usually have someone off to the side playing the piano. This is the perfect place to take a date.
